The MRC Data and Tissues Tool Kit is now live. It can be accessed from this link (Opens in a new window).
Modelled on the Clinical Trials Tool Kit, it provides practical advice on implementing statutory and good practice standards for research involving personal information and human tissue samples. It considers the requirements of relevant primary legsialation (including involving adults who cannot give consent for themselves and children) and covers the differences accross the UK.
Development of the Tool Kit was coordinated by MRC Reguloatory Support Centre. If you would like to discuss the Tool Kit or any other MRC Regulatory Support Centre initiative, please contact Rachel Smith.
The deadline for Registration of Intention to Submit an outline application for a Programme Grant for Applied Research in the third funding competition has been extended to Monday 10th September 2007 - the deadline for receipt of outline applications remains Monday 8th October 2007. Further information on how to apply for a Programme Grant for Applied Research is available on the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility website.

New R&D magazine - free subscription: A new magazine dedicated to the clinical R&D community in the UK titled 'Clinical Discovery' has recently been launched. It contains some interesting news and overview articles - Issue 1 includes 'best research for best health, research passport system (honorary contracts), GCP, NHS Trust R&D challenges, UK clinical research networks. Proposed Amendment to Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations - Lord Warner has announced that the Government proposes to amend the requirements of the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004 for consent in emergency situations.
