Project Summary
By aligning our research
and priority health care issues to commercial needs HONEI will
create regional wealth through the industrial focus, whilst
addressing the major global issues surrounding obesity and its
associated diseases such as diabetes. This Strategic
Vision will generate investment, research
opportunities, service improvement for NHS and global
solutions to the obesity pandemic.
We will:
- Engage food businesses local, regionally and
internationally to integrate with their growth and
development. Their increased wealth will reflect in the long term
for increased health.
- Facilitate the development of new
knowledge-based enterprises, novel functional food products and
their clinical testing in one unique facility.
- Ensure interdisciplinary working. There are
many departments within the University of Hull, the NHS Trusts that
can contribute immediately and directly – sports science, nursing,
Food, Health and Education Research Group, medicine etc.
- Progress the development of new educational
opportunities from community learning opportunities, through
foundation degree to MSc’s. Linking with the Centre for Lifelong
Learning to equip not just healthcare professionals, but also
communities worldwide with the knowledge to improve health.
- Provide a beacon for the recruitment of high
quality personnel such as dietitians, physicians, biological and
social scientists who will work collaboratively to make a
difference globally.
- Attract funding into a Centre of Excellence
from government agencies such as the Food Standards Agency and the
NIHR as well as blue chip charity funding.
- Provide the foundation on which to
attract national, European and International commercial
funding in this growth industry.
