Preserving the future

University staff at the History Centre are beginning to consider
the issues surrounding the collection, storage and management of
born-digital archives - material including e-mail, letters,
reports, blogs and websites that are created using a
computer.
The University is participating in the AIMS Project; Born
Digital Collections: An Inter-Institutional Model for
Stewardship with colleagues at the Universities of
Virginia, Stanford and Yale. The project is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation. We are looking to develop a
common framework for managing born-digital
content. Regular project updates are provided
via the born-digital archives
blog. This site includes details of work in-progress at Hull,
details of colloboration and dissemination and
links
to other projects and tools.
The AIMS White
Paper - is now available online, and a
press
release is also on the History Centre website.
The project was awarded Archive
Pace Setter status - this recognises the innovative nature of
the project including new methods of management and collection
care. It also demonstrates that the project adheres to good
practice in relation to project planning, management and
evaluation.
