Case Study - Erin
How I got involved
I am currently studying Ancient History at Newcastle University and
often need to go to my university library and archives for
information. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I left
university, but using these resources sparked an interest in how
they are preserved, catalogued and used so I wrote to the Hull
History Centre to ask about work experience opportunities. Everyone
was very helpful and I gained work experience over the summer.

What have I done?
I
volunteered for a month and really enjoyed myself. I came in most
days even though my hours were flexible and everyone made me feel
very welcome. I gained great experience in a variety of areas
including working with the public, with the archives and
cataloguing. I was able to see through three projects,
including one on World War II raids in Hull and cataloguing a
scrapbook
from the Co-operative Women's Guild, during my time at the History
Centre which was really rewarding.
I have had a really fun, interesting and
useful time at the History Centre and it has helped me think
(rather than panic!) about what to do when I leave university next
year. Thanks to everyone at the centre for their help.
