Led Sessions

From September 2010 we will be charging £1 per child, per hour. The fees can be waived for KS3/4 and pilots sessions, please get in touch for details. Any bookings taken before 6th September 2010 for the 2010-2011 school year will be free of charge.

Documenting Our Past
2 hours, KS2 or KS3

Explore a timeline of Hull from its origins as Wyke upon Hull to the Blitz and beyond through Hull’s unique archival and local studies collections whilst developing key skills and using cross-curricular links.

  • Create a charter of rights and responsibilities for modern Hull
  • Become Cartographers to predict and map out Hull’s growth
  • Become ‘Enumerators’ collecting census information from your ‘Victorian’ classmates
  • Act as Historians to discover and present what life was like for children in Hull during the war 
  • Collect information from our resources together into a timeline of Hull

Behind the Scenes
2 hours, KS2

Option A: The Mystery of Mason Street
Investigate the History Centre and it’s collections through a guided interactive tour. Explore the rich Victorian, wartime and recent history of our building and it’s site through our photographic, census, map and document collections.

Option B: Destination Hull
Investigate the origins of the Victorian residents of Mason street and how they got here from Russia, Ireland, Norway and as far away as Cornwall!

WW2 - ARP Apprentice, 2 hours - KS2
Practise the skills necessary to become an ARP warden through investigating a ‘top secret’ incident, exploring Hull during WW2 on film and practising wartime first aid.  Using Hull’s vast wartime document collection and clips from the Yorkshire Film Archives.

A 1 hour version of this session investigating the ‘top secret’ incident is also available.
This session would compliment Hull Museum Education’s ‘Evacuation!’, ‘Home Front’ and ‘On the Ration’ led sessions well. For more details or to book call 01482-318733.

Tudors - Henry’s Hull, 2 hours - KS2
Was Henry VIII really as mean as he sounds? Discover the effect Henry VIII’s reign had on Hull through original documents sent to the city by the man himself. Practise your own Tudor handwriting to create a scroll letter to reply to Henry. 

This session would compliment Hull Museum Education’s ‘The Tudors – Painting the Past’ and ‘The Tudors – Age of Discovery’ led sessions well. For more details or to book call 01482-318733.

Local History - Old School (all KS’s)
This project runs as an option for the acclaimed Museums in a Box project and is run in partnership with Hull Museums Education. Throughout the project pupils will act as curators and archivists and practise the skills necessary to research, create and deliver an exhibition about their school and the local area.
