The History Centre Project
These pages provide background information relating to the
development of the History Centre project from its initial
concept, the identification of a site location and the design and the topping out ceremony.
The Hull History Centre opened for business on 25th January 2010 and was
opened by Dan Snow on 7th June 2010.

The logo for the
History Centre is, appropriately enough, a stylised
The tree is composed of fractals, segments of curves which seem
to go on to infinity, like history. It is emblematic of longevity,
and archives must last for ever. It also symbolizes the family
trees which many of our customers use the History Centre to
research. It also references the timber from the Baltic which
Hull's trade was built on from its earliest days, and its style is
reminiscent of medieval art - appropriate for a building which
houses medieval documents, among many others.
Altogether it's a very appropriate logo for the Hull History
