Biomedical ethics and law research supported by the IAE
The Institute of Applied Ethics provided support for
and co-sponsored a workshop/book project titled 'Consent
and Beyond' that was held in July of 2005. The
project questioned whether consent is always the appropriate
regulative strategy for research and whether other moral
considerations might be more appropriate. Philip Bielby and John
McMillan contributed book chapters to the project.
The IAE has provided research assistance for the following
projects:
Phil Bielby: research support in preparing a paper on ethical
and conceptual aspects of mental capacity and mental health
legislation.
Liz Smith: research support in preparing a paper on the
medical, ethical and legal implications of resuscitating seriously
handicapped newborns.
Bev Clucas: research support in preparing a paper on the welfare
principle and discretion.
Suzanne Uniacke: research support in preparing a paper on ‘All
Due Respect’ that she presented as a Royal Institute of Philosophy
invited presentation at the University of Keele (March 2005).
