Political Ethics Research Associates
Gianluca Andresani is Lecturer in the
Business School. His research interests are in the areas of
ethics and public policy, ethics and public service, professional
ethics (in particular medical, legal and academic professions),
organisational and political ethics.
Cornelia Beyer is Lecturer in Politics at the
University of Hull. Her research interests focus on
International Relations theory, Counterterrorism and Global
Governance. Her contribution to the project lies in the field
of normative aspects within the area of security more broadly and
seen from an international relations standpoint.
Gary Blackburn is a PhD student within the
Department of Politics and International Studies at the University
of Hull. He holds an MA in International Politics and is a
member of the Military Ethics Education Network. His research
interests include liberalism and strategy and civil-military
relations. He is also a professional market researcher.
Stephen Burwood is Lecturer in Philosophy. His
research interests are primarily in the philosophy of mind and the
philosophy of human embodiment, though he has also written in the
fields of environmental philosophy and the philosophy of
education. He is currently writing on the concept
of the self.
Don Carrick is a tutor in medical ethics at the
University of Leeds. He is currently undertaking research
into the ethics of military education and development. He is
Project Director of the Military Ethics Education Network.
Raphael Cohen-Almagor is Professor of Politics in the
Department of Politics and International Studies. His
research interests include multiculturalism, media ethics, freedom
of expression, liberal democracy, media and terror and political
extremism.
James Connelly is Professor of Politics in the
Department of Politics and International Studies. His
research interests include the politics and ethics of the
environment, citizenship and virtue ethics. He is Project
Leader of the Military Ethics Education Network.
Xiudian
Dai is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics
and International Studies. Xiudian's main teaching and
research interests are the political economy of new media
technologies in general and the politics of the Internet in
particular.
Owen Fellows completed his PhD thesis on the
topic of international redistributive justice undertaken under the
auspices of the IAE as the Institute PhD Scholarship holder in
2010, and is now a tutor in the Department of Politics and
International Studies. He continues to research into issues
of international justice and the history of political
thought.
Paul Gilbert is Emeritus Professor of
Philosophy. His research interests are principally in the
field of human relationships, both personal and political,
including aspects of national identity. He has published on
terroism, security and nationalism.
Antony Hatzistavrou is Lecturer in Philosophy.
His research is focused on philosophy of action, legal and
political philosophy and ancient philosophy. He is currently
working on the justification of legal and political
authority.
Tom
Kane is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics
and International Studies. His main research interests are
strategic studies, international politics and the application of
political thought. Currently he is working on the political
agenda of non-governmental organisations, and contemporary problems
of using military force to achieve political goals.
Simon
Lee is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics
and International Studies. His main research interests are in
the political economy of competitiveness and comparative economic
performance; the political economy of the Third Way; theories of
globalisation and governance; and the International Monetary
Fund.
Paul Robinson is Associate Professor in the School
of Public and International Affairs, University of Ottawa. He
has recently published on war and honour and British defence
policy.
Sunil Shastri is a Lecturer in the Scarborough Centre
for Environmental and Marine Science. His research focuses on
Ocean Governance, including Science and technology of
resources; Geopolitical economy of resources; Institutions and
organisations; Legislation and implementation; and Stakeholder
participation.
Colin
Tyler is Reader in the Department of Politics and
International Studies. He is interested in the philosophy of
British Idealism, public reason and citizenship and modern
political philosophy.
Dominic Welburn is a PhD student
and politics tutor in the Department of Politics and
International Studies at the University of Hull. His research
focuses on the feasibility of developing a Rawlsian
environmental ethic that is, theoretically extending
Rawls's political liberalism to incorporate non-human species
and the demands of intergenerational justice. His other
research interests include environmental philosophy, theories of
democracy and the history of political thought.
Suzanne Uniacke is Reader in the Department of
Philosophy. She was an external consultant and invited participant
in the Oxford Programme on the Changing Character of War, a
multi-disciplinary project funded by the Leverhulme Trust,
2004-2008. She is currently working on the ethics of
retaliation.
