Work Package 5
This work package will build on the ongoing
deployment of Identity Management services at Hull based around the
Sun IDM stack. Sun Federation Manager will be evaluated for
appropriateness to ISPPS. The project will identify a set of core
attributes required for personalisation that can be commonly
provided by all the project partners. These attributes will be
mapped to the eduPerson standard as mandated by the JISC UK
Federation and held in the YHELLN directory. The YHELLN directory
will contain a set of service connectors with each college to
create and update directory profile data in near real-time. ISPPS
will also investigate the practicality of using the Unique Learner
Number across the LLN. If this is not possible the project will
follow the eduroam practice of username@institution.ac.uk.
Authentication data will also be held in the
directory. To enable flexible integration across the LLN, a
separate YHELLN authentication mechanism will be provided with
self-service management of passwords. This removes the need to
manage an additional password.
Sun Identity Manager will benefit the learning
experience by allowing a user to manage their own login
credentials and gain immediate access to the Yhelln portal system,
due to a continuously updating data transfer from the partner
colleges. Additionally this will reduce the administrative
burden of account management, which will free up resources to be
channelled elsewhere to benefit student learning.
Recent and continuing Identity Management
project work
- Attended a 5 day training course entitled "Sun Identity
Deployment Fundamentals". This intended to give you
practically all the knowledge you would need to setup Identity
Management Deployments. This was a very worthwhile course and
has provided the knowledge needed for the ongoing testing and setup
of Identity Manager to run alongside the Yhelln community portal
and connect partner colleges.
- Currently working on the low and high level architecture to
connect Identity Manager to create login accounts for the Yhelln
directory using Grimsby Institute user data. This experience
will be used to learn how best to approach other Yhelln partner
institutions.
