Identity management and portal developments
provide the foundations on which the other technical aspects of
this project are built, the most important of which is integration
with institutional VLEs. This will be achieved through the creation
of a generic dashboard concept with functionality identified as
part of User Requirements (WP2) that can be used across the VLEs
deployed within the LLN. VLE integration will require the ability
to query the VLE about an individual, allowing the portal to
display the correct content and provide a single ‘sign on’
mechanism from the portal to the VLE, removing the need/barrier of
asking users to ‘sign in’ twice. The project will draw on
experiences across a number of communities (JA-SIG, eSUP, Moodle)
and partners (MoodleRooms and potentially, Unicon) to identify and
implement best practice.
Integration with social networking tools will also be undertaken,
starting with an investigation into which tools users would be
interested in integrating. It is expected that integration will
start with simple approaches such as RSS feeds before moving on to
more complex activity using portlets.
